We're from Virginia

San Diego. A true jewel of a city. So many things to do. A perfect temperature. A definite repeat visit will be needed.

A trip to this city would not be complete without a trip to the zoo. What a fabulous place! We came at the perfect time, too. All the zoo babies were out and about. A baby giraffe was born a few days before our arrival. He was a cutie! Top that off with baby antelope, flamingos, and the ducks that also call the zoo home and you've got some cute residents!  The zoo is located amongst many hills. But don't worry about getting tired...the moving sidewalks take you up the steep terrain. A fabulous addition to any place with hills to climb. There is also a fun sky tram to ride to get a bird's eye view. Lots of fun for all!

The bigger guy was born in December. The little guy was born last week. :)

Balboa Park was another area of town we visited. It's home to many fabulous museums that one could spend days in. We didn't have days or want to pay for admission to each museum. That will have to be on the return trip to do list!

Dinner took us to Old Town. This place was fabulous! Lively. Colorful. Market stalls and great shops to peruse. Mexican cuisine to be enjoyed. Live music to be heard. A great way to spend an evening.

Coronado Island. A place of true beauty for various reasons. We did some beach walking and had lunch here. The historic hotel is lovely. The beach is beautiful. The shops are fun. But the real reason it's beautiful is the numerous attractive fellas wandering about in their Navy uniforms. We didn't know this before arrival. Had we known we would have planned to stay longer. You must also know that there are parts of the beach us civilian folk can't go. We didn't know this and one of the above mentioned Navy men came running and yelling. We now know. We won't repeat the mistake.

La Jolla beach (or La Holla beach if you want to ghettofy it!) is home to the seals. I can't even tell you how fantastic this is. Too much cuteness in one place. Watching them get around and interact with each other is something you could do for hours! There were little pups too. Adorable is an understatement. Holla at the seals :)

San Diego also brought an oil change for Pauley...we've driven 3,500 miles and three loads of laundry.

Our drive north began along the coast. The beautiful Pacific Coast Highway. A much nicer drive than that of the desert. There are so many coastal towns that called our names! I could stop and spend a week in each. We did stop to watch the sunset. It just so happened this was in Laguna Beach. For some of you that doesn't mean anything. For others it will make you want to waste a day watching reruns of LC and her crew. Did you know Mindi and I have met Lauren? Now we've been to her hometown. I think that makes us friends, don't you?

It's easy to get turned around in a new city. Tom, our GPS that is actually a girl, does a pretty good job but we've done lots of turning around, cutting into traffic, and making uturns. In San Diego you must be especially careful. What you think is a road that will circle the block will actually dump you on the freeway. Sometimes you come to a toll booth that is really confusing and you just drive through. Occasionally you have to cross lots of lanes to make the exit Tom has now decided you should take. We do all of this with no worries. You see, Pauley has Virginia tags. We are giving Virginia drivers a bad name. When a road mishap occurs we simply say, "Sorry, we didn't know, we're from Virginia."

If you know Mindi well, you know that there are some funny things that come out of her mouth. She doesn't have a clue she says them, which makes them better. Here are two for your enjoyment.

"I could never paddle board. I would fall off and be eaten alive by jelly beans." (Yes, those jelly beans are quite dangerous.)

"We need to get some more double d batteries for the lantern." (Maybe she was thinking about a bra, not batteries?)

And don't worry about that toll booth situation. We worked it out.

  1. Makenna loves the seals! She has some funny things that come out of her mouth too! She told me the other day that I needed to wear my shin guard to the ocean!
