Get Your Kicks on Route 66

Route 66. America's Main Street. Nostalgic America. Random roadside attractions. Good times :)

We've spent the day getting in and out of the car. There are a lot of random things along historic Route 66. All of these things provide a not to be missed photo opportunity!! There has been a lot of "What was that?" followed by "I don't know...turn around!"

We've seen the original 'Tow Mater' that inspired the character in Cars. The world's largest totem pole. A giant blue whale. Visited towns so small that you blink and they are gone. Discoverd that the kicker for the Giants is from one of those towns. We met his Aunt. She works at the totem pole park. We found a giant gold man in Tulsa. Very nice looking guy! Tall, muscular, apparently looks good in a tux. Visited a store that has over 650 different flavors of soda. Everything from cola to dogs drool. Found a big red round barn. Found the diner whose owner inspired Sally from Cars. Ate at the counter of a greasy diner.  I think it's safe to say we "got our kicks on Route 66!"

We've managed to get turned around in the sense of being lost only once. We ended up on a gravel road that turned to dirt. This is not Route 66. Thank you Google for always knowing where we are and for putting our little blue dot on a map to help us find our way.

In Oklahoma City we visited the bombing memorial. 168 chairs represent 168 lives lost. Big chairs for big people. Little chairs for little people. It is a beautiful memorial to these people whose lives were taken by such senseless violence.

Oklahoma, you proved to be more exciting than Missouri! Tomorrow we tackle Texas. Can't wait to see what adventures await us there.
